The government of Australia has announced the new temporary sponsored parent visa under Family sponsorship program, specifying the visa provides a new pathway to a parent of an Australian Citizen or a permanent resident to reunite with their children or grandchildren allowing the parent to stay for longer period.

Benefits of the New Parent Visa

The new temporary sponsored parent visa provides you with following benefits:

• Allows parent to stay up to 5 years without departing.
• Allows parent to stay for Maximum 10 years cumulatively.
• Parent are not required to leave Australia during the validity of the visa.
• Parent may be able to apply for a second temporary sponsored parent visa.
• Multiple entry permitted.

Sponsorship Eligibility

The new parent visa sponsorship application opened from - 17th April 2019 under sub class 870.

A sponsor will be considered eligible, if a sponsor meets the following requirements:

• The sponsor must be 18 or above years age.
• The sponsor must be biological, adoptive or stepchild of the parent.
• Be an eligible Australian citizen, adoptive or stepchild of the parent.
• Must meet the household income requirements.
• Must have no debts to the Commonwealth or outstanding public health debts.
• Only 2 parents per household.
• No sponsorship bond required.
• No balance of family test.

The sponsorship must be approved before the visa application is lodged.

Conditions applied

While parents are welcome to enjoy time with their children there are some conditions that apply to this visa.

• Condition 8103 – “no work” will be applied to the visa.
• Parent is required to maintain adequate health insurance for the duration of their stay.

The visa application charges are:

• Sponsorship - $420
• Three Year Visa - $5000
• Five Year Visa - $10,000
